@ The Studio

The studio has been getting very busy and I have had a large influx of new students starting which is great news. I have had some beginners start as well as some older advanced players so I have been teaching everything from 3 blind mice to Get The Funk Out by Extreme which has been 2 extremes but go’s to show the variety in levels of my students. There are a few spaces left after school hours around 4 and 5 pm so please do get in touch if you are interested in guitar lessons in Bromley. I am preparing to go back to school teaching for the new term as I teach in schools for The Bromley Youth Music Trust and this means I have just taken my refresher course in Protecting Children which is necessary when teaching in schools as well as having a full CRB check.

Gigging hard with Mr James Mc Master

A great Indian wedding with Superbad

So August is prime wedding season time and this month I have been gigging a lot and have seen many many brides, drunken grooms and enough dad dancing to last me a lifetime but I did have some great gigs. I have been out with The Beatnicks, Superbad, Firefly, SF6 and more and they are all a great bunch so many thanks guys.

I also managed to catch this video of Firefly playing Sweet Child O Mine with the incredible Wez Johnson on drums who is shortly to be touring with amazing blues guitar player Kirk Fletcher.

I was also well over due a pedal board makeover and so decided to delve into the world of pedal switchers and have my board rebuilt. I am not a big gear head but the basics of the foot switcher (Muiscomlab Lite M6) is that all of my pedals can go into it and I can turn any of them on or off as well as changing midi and switching channels on my amp. I had a go at sorting it out my self but after several days of flipping through manuals and trying to strip wires I contacted Darren Taggart who did a wonderful job in sorting it all out and writing it up and can’t thank him enough. If you need any guitar work done I can highly recommend him and you can find a link to his website here http://www.darrentaggartguitar.co.uk. Here is a couple of pics of before and after!

I mentioned last month that I had been composing some music for an English Phonics School in Singapore, well the video is now up and had over 14,000 views so far so go check it out here.

Have a nice month and see you in September.

Thanks

@ The Studio

The studio has quite an influx of students this month even though July and August are always a bit quite. I have noticed that the majority of the new people starting are looking to keep their studies going through the summer holidays and for those who are creeping for exams but don’t want to take 2 months of from lessons. I have also had some new beginners start which is all ways encouraging and i have also had several older students start who have been playing a few years but want some direction. The studio has parking outside and we provide a waiting area with tea and coffee facilities so if you are thinking of staring lessons or just want to come down and have a chat then please do get in touch. The next set of Trinity Music Exams is in December but application forms need to be in by September so if you are thinking of taking an exam do get in touch. I have some availability through the summer months also as i am a bit more flexible with time due to not teaching at school.

As you can see this month it is very much “wedding season” and i have been gigging a lot over the last few weeks with a variety of bands including The 29 fingers, Firefly and SF6. Gigs will keep me busy up until the end of October and have been playing a huge variety of songs ranging from Bruno Mars to Michael Jackson and Earth Wind and Fire.

As well as gigging I have finished up teaching at school for the summer term which gives me a chance to work on composition. I have had a few different jobs come in recently ranging from an original film to as Asian English school which had seen me writing music to nursery rhymes which was a new one and when I ended up in the studio I found at the technician (Dave) was the engineer behind such hits as the cartoon PINGU!. I have always enjoyed composition and have always written for other artists as well as my self and various bands I have played in over the years but I have always had passion for film music so I have re written the music for The Bourne Ultimatum Movie Trailer which you can check out here. If you need any music written for any project you are working on do feel free to drop me an email.

As you may remember i also wrote several songs for up coming country singer Jeannine Barry and her EP is now available on iTunes. I co wrote the title track Of The Hook as well as Lonely Road and Carousel. You can check her out here  http://www.jeanninebarry.com/27-off-the-hook.

I have also been out a few jams this week with one being exceptionally funky in Lewisham where i got to jam with fellow Soul Grenader Milan and the Accent Collective who you can find out about here https://www.facebook.com/AccentsCollective. I also played with the Mike Panos blues band for their monthly jam and wanted to congratulate one of my students Robbie for getting up and playing at his first jam, well done mate.  He also took this video of me playing a bit of blues with the guys.

Thats about it of this month but i will see you next month with more.

Thanks

NEWS – Gigs, Rockschool Exams

Unknown

@The Studio – Keir Moore Guitar Lessons Bromley

The studio has been busy this month with my regular students all working hard towards their own personal goals that at the moment range from some of my younger students preparing for their next Trinity Classical Guitar Exams as well as some of my more “mature” students getting ready to play their first jam night. If you are unfamiliar with the term jam night let me explain. It normally consists of a house band who play the majority of the music and then ask other players to come up and join them to play some songs. Several of my students who have never played in a band or even played live are now starting to get involved with these nights and i think its great for expanding them as a player. Some times you play well and some times you get your arsed kick but i think this is all important in becoming a better player. Here is me at the Mike Panos blues night at The Greyhound Keston, more info can be found here https://www.facebook.com/greyhound.keston?fref=nf&pnref=story.

GetAttachment.aspx

I have recently started several student s on the Rock School exam syllabus. These are a great alternative for students who are not focused join the classical side of playing as the tracks are contemporary electric guitar songs with a full band backing track on CD which makes for a much more enjoyable way to practice for their exams. The exams are fully accredited and examinations take place 3 times a year, for more info you can check out the website here http://www.rockschool.co.uk

I currently have a few spaces left so if you are interested in please do get in touch at the contact section of the website for more info.

OTHER NEWS…

Other wise this month i have been gigging a lot with several different bands. Firstly there was a great couple of gigs with Superbad an awesome funk band run by fellow Soul Grenader Dave Henley. I have also been out with my regular band Firefly and also with SF6 which featured one of the most mind-blowing close up magicians i have ever seen.

My band funk band Soul Grenades have also been gigging this month and had the pleasure of playing at Pineapple Jam which is an online community run by a collective of DJ’s, Producers and music enthusiasts to share their passion for all things funky. Was a great sweaty night off funk and after some technical difficulties we rocked out and the crowd were great. Some one whom i have no idea managed to film some of it, who ever you were thanks!.https://youtu.be/hCis1aELwVw

Cool well have a good month and i catch you all soon.

NEWS : Soul Grenades, Fingers, Whistle Down The Wind, Mr Big

@The Studio – Keir Moore Guitar Lessons Bromley

It’s been a great month since I opened the Bromley studio full-time and have started teaching guitar to a lot of new students, which is encouraging. I have been teaching everything from Grade 1-8 to sweep picking with a new student who is into his old school guitar shred, Beach Boys, Rock School Exams and a couple of complete beginners one of which is learning their first chords and the other is learning there very few notes as they are only 5 years of age.  I am still waiting for the hard copy of my students certificates to come through from the Trinity Music Board but i was sent this picture from my student Samuel Lovelock who passed his INITIAL Guitar Grade with Distinction so wanted to say great work Sam.

 Guitar Student Sam Lovelock

Also mention to my student Ella Pettitt who has been learning Apache by The Shadows and i think you can agree that from this video she is becoming a fantastic guitar player. Well done Ella

OTHER NEWS. . .

This month i have been out gigging with Soul Grenades playing all things funky and we had a gig at The Pack & Carriage in Euston. It was our first gig with new singer Sabina and keys player Dave and it went really well and I have managed to find this video from the gig. Make sure you get over to the website Soul Grenades for more info.

https://youtu.be/obsyNofpn4k

I was also asked (quite last-minute) to play guitar for the BYMT production of Whistle Down The wInd by Andrew Lloyd Webber. I really enjoyed it and there was some great music in there and some fantastic young musicians playing in the band. I don’t do a lot of musicals but loved the challenge and managed to get all the right parts played in time and the right time which is always good.

Whistle Down The Wind

Otherwise this month i have been out gigging with top function band The 29 Fingers and Firefly and have  a lot of gigs coming up in the diary starting this week so had better get practicing. I also had time to practice this for a student which is the solo from the great band Mr Big and its the solo from Brother Lover Little Boy!

Latest at the Studio

I am now at my teaching studio in Bromley full-time and as a result have had a large influx of new students who have ranged from a retired teacher wanting to learn Fleetwood Mac to a younger student who has taken his first steps into grades.

Talking of all things Grades I would like to say a massive congratulations to my students who took their TRINITY MUSIC EXAMS as they all passed with flying colours and some of them gained the highest scores I have seen so again well done to you all. Grades offer students a great chance to focus their learning and provides them with a goal which some students can find really helps in their studies. I will soon be uploading pictures of my students with their certificates so keep an eye out.

SPECIAL THANKS to my student Dr Teresa Jefferies who has done the most magical upgrading of my old battered strat. She has been gigged hard over the years and was well overdue an upgrade and for those who are interested she now has Dimarzio Area 58 & 61silent vintage pickups, wilkinson VS100 trem and graphite nut. Plays like a dream so thank you very much T.

Playing guitar on stage

I hope you have all had a nice relaxing easter and like my self have eaten your body weight in chocolate and roast dinners. This month I have been busy rehearsing and writing new material with my funk band Soul Grenades which for those who don’t know is an originals funk band consisting of 11 of us plus a shiny horn section. We have been working on demos and getting our incredible new singer Sabinna up to scratch with our set as well as our disgustingly talented keys player Dave Henley. I have included a video of us in rehearsals last week in preparation for our gig at The Pack And Carriage this friday the 10th in Euston. So feel free to come down and check out some great funk bands.

I have also been writing songs for country star Jeannine Barry as she is heading of to sunny Nashville to record her EP so best of luck to you girl!

Last month i did a session for producer Kai McKenzie for pop band FOREVER IN YOUR MIND where i played guitar and ukulele on their new track Sweet Little Something which has been riding high in the Disney Charts. FEBRUARY – Country 2 Country, Guitar Master Class, Kerry Ellis

Playing guitar in Jeannine Barry's band

Its been a very busy few months with me but lots of fun and music has been had as you can see from above. This weekend just gone I played guitar with Jeannine Barry for the Country 2 Country festival at the O2 in London (which you can check out here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mn_PaJOoFgg). There was loads of incredible music the entire weekend as well as great pulled pork, cider and beer. The evening was headlined by Lady Antebellum who are a huge country act in America and the weekend was devoted to bringing country music to the UK. I was fortunate enough to visit Nashville last year and it was one of the best places I have been to where the music is every where and played by some of the most incredible players so it was nice to re live that this weekend. The band consisted of Ali, Ryan and Marcus and we nailed it. We were using this gig as a chance to promote Jeannine’s new single that I co wrote and played all guitars on, produced by my very food friend Kai Mc Kenzie. Her single is available for download here.

Here are some pics from the gig

Producer Kai McKenzie also asked me to play on a track featuring West End superstar Kerry Ellis (We Will Rock You, Wicked etc) this month which was great and should be released very soon so will keep you updated.

GUITAR CLINIC

This month I found my self at my first guitar clinic in years hosted by IGuitar contributor and all round amazing axe man Lewis Turner and also featuring Levi Clay, Sam Bell and Tom Quayle. The clinic consisted of a master class from each of the guys with Levi covering transcribing, Sam on string skipped tapped arpeggios, Lewis on theatre work and Tom on playing over changes and fretboard visualisation. I had a great time and was really interesting listening to each of these top players explaining how they approach the guitar as well as all the problems and concerns we all have as players. The master class was finished up by an evenings concert where all the players jammed together with an awesome band featuring Samer Sharawi and a great drummer who’s name I sadly didn’t catch. You can check out a video of the jam here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N004pP-auI

I have been out gigging with my function band Firefly as well at the moment and we had some pictures taken at our last gig which I thought I would share with you and thanks to Jonathan Snow

DECEMBER 2014 – Studio, Gigs, New Mac!

Keir Moore Guitar Teacher Bromley

December has been a great as I have been gigging and teaching lots but also had a fantastic Christmas catching up with  everyone and consuming my body weight in cheese and red wine! I will take this opportunity to wish you all a happy New Year and hope you have a great 2015.

Firefly Function Band

The month kicked off with the first of many corporate Christmas parties and as you can see my function band Firefly got the place rocking hard. This party consisted of an aircraft hangar, dodgems, gymnasts a casino and a lot of drunk people, we also were luckily enough to be in the presence of Mr Richard Green who was depping on keys. Great gig even when one of the guests tripped over took me out and then fell into the drum kit halting the gig for a few moments!.

London Concert Chorus

I used the Flyrig again on this gig and it worked a treat and meant I was packed down in about 3 mins however I used my Egnater Renegade amp a couple of nights ago and you just cannot beat the real thing!

Every December Firelfy play with the London Concert Chorus for their Carol service helping raise money and support for Bromley Mind which helps people deal with all kinds of mental health problems. The concert is always a highlight but special mention to the LCC as they smashed it!

To finish the year off I had a New Year’s Eve gig with the mighty Soul Factory and like I said before I used my amp again on this gig and god it sounded monstrous!

SOUL GRENADE

My funk band Soul Grenade had a busy month out gigging and in the studio. We played the Silver Bullet in Finsbury supporting Jack Tyson Charles (son of Craig Charles 6Music Funk Show) and had a great time. It was the last gig of the year and as a result I had a few beers and gave Milan our Sax player a massage during his solo, this can all be seen on video shortly.

We also went into the studio to start work on some demos and got some great pictures taken during the process. It was great to record live with the guys as so much of the time now I find my self straight to desk with just the producer which can be great but it was so much fun to actually play live a and get in the groove. We are currently waiting on the mixing etc but will put it up as soon as I get it and let me know thoughts.

Guitar Session In Studio

A bit tight on the Silver Bullet stage. Ray doesn’t seem to happy with the sound engineer!
